ISO 9001 Set for Revision

The next revision of ISO 9001 is planned to be issued in Autumn 2015. The Committee draft of the standard is currently being circulated for comment. Some of the key changes proposed include:

  • Making the standard more easily applied to the service sector with less emphasis on hardware/manufacturing;
  • More focus on analysis of the context in which an organization operates in relation to its’ customers and other ‘interested parties’ and impacts on the management system;
  • Introduction of risk assessment to address risks and opportunities;
  • Further emphasis on the use of the process approach to support business objectives;
  • Introduction of the concept of ‘knowledge management’;

Once the standard reaches the published draft stage, Excel will be able to provide guidance, through our auditing training and downloadable technical documents, on the specific actions required to transition and comply with the new requirements.
