Overview

This highly interactive and practical in-house course is designed to provide delegates with a sound knowledge of all elements involved in implementing an Environmental Management System (EMS), in order to:

  • Understand the implications and benefits of an EMS to their industry sector and specific organisation
  • Begin implementing an EMS based on ISO 14001
  • Apply and integrate ISO 14001 into existing management systems

Course Objectives

Our course will provide delegates with an accelerated start to implementing an EMS programme by developing outline policies and objectives specific to the organisation, as well as plans from which the organisation can launch a full EMS implementation project.

Through a series of tailored workshops preceded by a short tutorial, the course covers the most significant aspects of implementing an EMS, enabling the delegates to:

  • Identify the objectives and benefits of an EMS and the requirements of ISO 14001/EMAR.
  • Assess the organization's current state with regards to an EMS and perform a gap analysis to meet EMS standards.
  • Create a set of EMS requirements applicable to the organization, including an outline programme and appropriate objectives and targets.
  • Identify environmental aspects and impacts relevant to the organization with the emphasis on improvement.

  • Defining the purpose and structure of the EMS Standards ISO 14001, Eco-Management and Audit Regulation (EMAR)
  • Review of environmental legislation and codes of practice and defining an environmental policy
  • System integration
  • Identification of environmental aspects and impacts, risk evaluation
  • Planning the EMS implementation programme:
    • Timescales and resources
    • Gaining management commitment
    • Environmental performance measures
    • Establishing policy and setting objectives and targets
    • Documentation, monitoring and auditing for improvement
  • Emergency procedures, health & safety, calibration
  • Sources of information and further development
