Although this flowchart provides a general methodical approach to guide you through the certification process, some of these steps may be performed in conjunction with others and not necessarily in the order outlined here. The approach you take to reach your goals will depend on the culture of your organisation, resources available and individual preferences to ways of working.
Analysis
- Compare existing systems with requirements of the standard
- Identify resourses, costs & return on investment
Plan
- Agree goals and project outcomes, e.g. Third Party Certification
- Project timings and methods of communication
Awareness
- Identify core project team and Internal Auditors
- Identify applicable training needs, for specific individuals as well as the broader corporate community
- Maintain training records
- Document the processes within each department or group within the company
- Define how these meet the requirements of the applicable standard
- Put the documented system into practice
- Assess whether the system is meeting business requirements
Audits
- Engage your Internal Auditor team
- Assess the conformity of your management system
- Implement corrective actions
Certification
- Select your Accredited Certification Body
- Agree date for your Stage 1 Audit
- Implement corrective actions resulting from Stage 1 Audit
Certification
- Agree date for your Stage 2 Audit
- Implement corrective actions resulting from Stage 2 Audit
- Celebrate success with all staff and communicate achievements to your customers
Improvement
- Keep your management system 'alive'
- Implement a programme of continuous review and improvement
- Identify further training needs and continuous professional development opportunities
